Apostle Islands - Day2

The next day came in bright and sunny. We woke up early and were dressed quickly and we could not wait to get out and start on the sea kayaking trip for the day. I woke up early and went to the sun deck and took some pics of the lake from there. It was a perfect and beautiful morning.

After a hearty breakfast at a nice and sunny place named "Egg toss" we made our way to the place where we were going to get changed and dressed up for the trip.

We got to the dock, got changed into the kayaking gear and there were going to be 6 kayaks with two people in each and two guides who were going to accompany us. So we all piled up in a van with a trailer pulling the kayaks and all the other equipment. After a 20min trip we reached the beach from where we going to start the trip.

We had to lug the kayaks down to the beach from the parking lot. The lake looked serene and beautiful. It was a perfect day to kayak - not a cloud, a slight breeze, perfect sun and not even a ripple in the lake. The guides told us that the lake is this calm maybe twice or thrice a year. It was a beautiful and soothing sight to see the water.

After a training session, in which the guide gave us the training and guidelines required to kayak, we chose a red colored kayak and started the trip!

Well, it was soothing and therapeutic to be there bobbing on the water, kayaking with all our might on the vast Lake Superior. It was easier than I thought it would be, but definitely took a lot of energy.

Like I said earlier, the Apostle Islands is an archipelago of 22 islands and island hopping is done via kayaks - you can kayak from island to island, get off at any of the islands and explore it. We can kayak into and out of the beautiful sea caves formed at the edge of the lake.

We had started kayaking around 10:00 in the morning and at around 1:00pm we were famished and hungry. So we stopped at an island, pulled up our kayaks and the guides pulled out our lunch. The lunch was quite a spread. We had hummus and vegetable wraps, we had fresh fruit, hot chocolate, pretzels and dip, baby carrots and dip and chocolate chip cookies for dessert. It was a satisfying wholesome meal and we really enjoyed it after a hard day of kayaking. After resting for sometime all of us set out again in our kayaks.

We started our way back to the beach again. We reached our point at around 3:30pm. It was a great experience spending the whole day on water. We lugged all the equipment and the kayaks to the trailer and made our way back to the dock. Changed into our clothes again we made our way back to the town.

We stopped there at a place for a snack in the evening and then decided to go back to our cabin and rest a little.

Boy, we were tired from our trip - around 4 hours of kayaking is quite bone breaking :). So we went to the cabin and took a nap. Woke up time for dinner and went to a nice italian restaurant for dinner. We got back to the room and were ready to hit the sack again, when I suddenly realized that our camera was missing. So we traced our path, and figured we must have left it in the place where we stopped for a snack. So we drove back there and it was closed for the night, so we would not know until the next day.
